Homework for Tuesday, March 11

Complete the following on loose-leaf paper to turn in.

1.)  How many feet are in a yard?  If you have a square that measures 1yd by 1yd, how many square feet would it be? (think of how many feet are in a yard) Draw this out to clarify.

2.)  Daisy and Esmeralda are going to mow two fields in McKinley park.  The rectangular field that Daisy mows is 80 yd by 80yd.  The rectangular field that Esmeralda mows is 90yd by 60 yd.  Who mowed more grass?  How much more did that person mow?  Show your work.

3.)  Mr. Basco needs to put tape around the gym floor for a basketball game as a border. First he puts on a new hardwood floor.  The floor is 300 sq. yards and the length is 10 yards.  How long is the width?   How much tape will he need for the outside border?  Show your work and make a drawing to help.

Challenge:
4.) The Chicago Bears need to resow the grass for the football field.  The football field measures 120 yards long and 53 yards wide.  The grass is sold for $2.50 per square foot (not yard).  How much will it cost the Chicago Bears to put new grass on the whole football field?
*hint, think of how many feet are in a yard, and how many square feet are in a square yard.
