HW- Tuesday December 16- Algebra

For today, use algebra to find the intersecting point for the following equations. Complete these in your journal. You can verify them at this site:

https://www.desmos.com/calculator

y =  9X  +  7  and y = 3X - 11

y =  7X - 12   and  y = 2X + 13

y = -12X  + 4  and y = - 3X  - 76

y = 7x - 8   and y = 4X +  12

Bonus: This will have two points where they intersect
y = x     and y = 16/x

hw- monday december 15 - ALGEBRA

Complete the following in your journals.  Use graph paper to help.

Find the equations for two straight lines that are neither vertical nor horizontal that intersect at point (9,1)

What are the slopes of your lines?  What are the y-intercepts?  Are they upward or downward?

Find the equation for two straight lines that are neither vertical nor horizontal that intersect at point (4, 7).

What are the slopes of your lines?  What are the y-intercepts?  Are they upward or downward?

Read pages 275 - 280 in your algebra book and be prepared to discuss inverse equations tomorrow.

HW- Monday December 8 - ALGEBRA

Finish the Additional Practice for 3.11 that was passed out today. Be prepared with any questions for tomorrow.

HW- Monday December 8 - EIGHTH Grade

For today, finish problem #3 that was passed out in class.  Find the area of the triangles, squares, and combine them.

HW- Monday December 8- 7th Grade

For today, make sure you plot the points for the snails on a graph.  We will discuss how ratios relate to lines tomorrow.

Friday, December 5, 2014

HW- Friday December 5- Algebra

For this weekend you will need graph paper to finish the homework.

Complete # 6,7,8, 10-12 on page 252.

For numbers 6 and 7 create a table for x-values -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3 to help you find points to plot.

Connect the points into a line.

Hw - Thursday December 4 - EIGHTH Grade

Solve the following problems using distance or pythagorean theorem.

1.)  Find the distance between Point M (9, 11)   and P  ( 13, 14)

2.)   Find the distance between Q (3, 8)  and R (9, 16)

3.)  Find the distance between B ( - 8, -3 )  and Z (4, 3)

4.)  Find the distance between M (-12, 10)  and D (  2, - 2)

5.)  Explain in your own words how pythagorean theorem is similar to the distance formula discussed in class today.

HW - Wednesday December 3 - SEVENTH

1.) There are two similar rectangles. The smaller rectangle has a length of  9 and width of 12.
The larger rectangle has a length of 55.8 and an unknown width.

Find the missing width of the larger rectangle and find the missing factor.

Draw the rectangles to help you.

2.) There are two similar right triangles.  Triangle one has sides 3, 4, and 5 for the hypotenuse.  Triangle two has sides 19.5, 26, and X for the hypotenuse.  Solve for the missing hypotenuse side.

Find the missing hypotenuse and find the missing factor that we multiply by.

Draw the triangles for help.

HW- Wednesday December 3 - EIGHTH Grade

Use your grid paper and Pythagorean theorem to find the distance between the following sets of points.

1.)  Find the distance between Point A (0, 0) and B (10, 8)

2.)  Find the distance between Point E (-11, 6)  and F (-1, 14)

3.)  Find the distance between Point J ( 4, 4) and K (12, 10)

4.)  Find the distance between Point O (2, 2)  and P (10, 8)

HW- Tuesday December 2 - SEVENTH Grade

1.) Mario wants to buy some Cheerios at Target.  He can buy a small box for $2.50, a large box for $3, and a Family box for $4.

The small box is 16 ounces of cereal, the large box is 24 ounces of cereal, and the family box is 32 ounces of cereal.

How much is each ounce of cereal for each box?  How much money is saved per ounce by buying the family size box instead of the small box?

2.)  Adolfo noticed the price of a 20 oz., bottle of Coke changes from place to place.  At Target, it costs $1.  At Granado's it costs $1.50 for the same bottle.  At the movie theater it costs $3 for the bottle.  How much is each ounce of Coke for each of the locations?  How much more is EACH ounce of Coke at the movie theater than at Target and at Granados?

HW- Monday December 1 - EIGHTH AFTERNOON

Complete the following on loose leaf paper.  Use Pythagorean Theorem to help you solve, show your steps.

1.) A right triangle with sides 7 and 11. Find the hypotenuse

2.)  A right triangle with sides 15 and 20.  Find the hypotenuse.

3.) A right triangle with hypotenuse 12 and side 4, find the remaining side.

4.) A right triangle with hypotenuse 21 and side 10, find the remaining side.

Challenge

**5.)  A right triangle with sides 12 and 18.  What can be the measurement of the remaining side?  (There are two possible answers).

** 6.) A right triangle with a hypotenuse of 10.  What are the possible measurements of the remaining sides? (there can be multiple correct responses).

HW - Monday December 1st - SEVENTH Grade

Solve the following on loose leaf paper.

1.)  Mr. C and Mr. M are having a hot dog eating contest.  Mr. C ate 10 hot dogs in 4 minutes.  Mr. M ate 13 hot dogs in 5 minutes.

Who is eating the hot dogs at a faster rate? If they kept eating the same amount, without getting full or sick, how many would each eat in 20 minutes?  How many minutes does it take for each of them to eat 1 hot dog?

2.)  FoxConn is the company that manufactures the iPhone for Apple.  They make 400,000 iPhones per day.  If they make 400,000 iPhones per day, how many are they making per hour?  How many per minute?  How many per second?

How many minutes does it take them to make 1 iPhone
(Hint:  your unit rate will be X minutes  /  1 iPhone)

3.)  Mr. M is trying to decide between two printers.  The HP printer can print out 300 black-white copies in 5 minutes and 40 color copies in 5 minutes.  The Dell printer can print out 250 black-white copies in 4 minutes and and 50 color copies in 8 minutes.  Which copier should Mr. M purchase?  Justify your answer with mathematical facts.
